My husband and I switched over to Krill Oil from Fish Oil to give it a try and see what all the “hype” was about! We do not like the krill oil at all. Neither one of us felt the same benefits from this one little pill as we did from our original fish oil pills. My husband suffers from depression and bi-polar and the fish oil pills really helped him A LOT, after 2 weeks on the krill oil we could see the change in his mod for the worse, they do not do the same thing (at least for him) for his bi-polar as the fish oil def do! We are switching back to fish oil asap!!! The DHA is much higher in our original fish oil product.

  2. I won’t know for sure until I have my chloresterol checked again. However the service from the vender was very good.

Shortly after taking 2 caps a day I began having a phantom olfactory sensation (smell) of a sweet, sea-weedy, unpleasant nature. I actually started gagging in bed last evening and put perfume on the end of my nose to distract myself! I couldn’t find any external source and thought that it might actually be generated internally. It occurred to me that it could be the Mega Red so I broke open a capsule and sure enough, the thick, shockingly red oil smelled exactly like my phantom odor. I can’t begin to imagine what my insides look like, let alone smell like–other body by-products also smell like krill oil. Regular Omega-3 fish oils have not had this effect (those that are marketed as having no fishy aftertaste). I found this nasty sensation very disturbing.

  4. I was delighted when I received the Costco flyer showing that they now offered the krill MegaRed. I’d been buying for some time, on an automatic shipment basis, Nordic Krill from Amazon. The price seemed excellent at $20.77 per month for 60 capsules (I take two a day). The MegaReds were listed as 90 capsules for about the same amount of money. However, when I looked at the ingredients and saw sorbitol listed, that was the end of MegaRed.

Even if the amount of sorbitol in each capsule is minute, I still reject ingesting sorbitol in any form. So, I guess it’s back to Nordic Krill capsules from Amazon. Or perhaps the wild salmon I eat every day is actually sufficient and I don’t really need to take a supplement.

I had previously tried the Source Naturals NKO brand. This sells for about 22.40 for 60 capsules (500 Mg). I decided to try the MegaRed brand. At 90 capsules for about 21.00 (300 Mg), it was roughly the same cost per mg.

I didn’t realize at first though that the dosage levels were different. This was my mistake.

The MegaRed capsules are definitely smaller – to be expected. Since I take 3 daily NKO capsules (1500 mg), I have to take 5 MegaReds to get a comparable dose.

My real complaint is that I’m met with a strong fishy smell from the MegaRed bottle whenever I open it. I don’t notice the same problem with my NKO brand.

After I finish the MegaRed order, I will return to the Source Naturals NKO brand.
